Manatees in The Bahamas

Manatees Rita and Georgie made the news spending time in Spanish Wells, Eleuthera and Nassau Harbour.  Find out how Rita and Georgie ended up the Berry Islands and learn more about manatees in The Bahamas. Then let us know if you’ve seen a Bahamas manatee.

Saving San Salvador’s Iguanas

The Bahamas is home to several species of iguanas, but some are doing better than others. In an effort to help the San Salvador iguana population, Seacology and CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank teamed up to fund the San Salvador Iguana Conservation Centre. The Centre is located at Gerace Research Center, and overseen by Professor William Hayes of Loma Linda University. Local conservation organization San Salvador’s Living Jewels is involved with education efforts and raising awareness of the importance of habitat conservation to the iguana’s future.  A Loggerhead Productions(production).

Manatees from Spanish Wells to Atlantis

Check out this video about the manatees from Spanish Wells that were rescued by Atlantis made by RV Sea Watch. Conch Salad was there for Rita and Georgie’s release in the Berries last week.  Got some cool video of them and other manatees while we were there -give us a couple weeks to edit it all together.

The Sperrit

Ready for Junkanoo?  Catch “The Sperrit” Jordan Darville’s documentary that follows the team “One Family” as they detail their history and the history of the festival, while dealing with internal struggles and rival squads. The film also touches on the problems Bahamian society faces, and how Junkanoo may be inadvertently contributing to them.  Let us know if you’ve got something we should be showcasing.
